What to post on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is more than a place to store your CV – it is a place where people go to learn, share ideas and decide who they want to work with.

When you post the right content on LinkedIn, you can:

  • Raise your profile and become known for what you do
  • Attract new clients, partners, or job offers
  • Keep your company visible to the exact people you want to reach

The problem? Most newcomers freeze at the first hurdle: “What should I post?”

Without clear answers, profiles stay silent and opportunities can slip away.

That’s why we’ve developed this guide. After years of helping teams build successful LinkedIn content strategies, we’ve broken down the content creation process into simple steps anyone can follow to get started and build confidence.

By the end, you will have a better understanding of the types of content you can start posting to increase your LinkedIn activity.

What types of content can you start posting on LinkedIn?

Here are some great content ideas to help you get started with posting regularly on LinkedIn.

These content types should be available to just about anyone and shouldn’t take too long to write, edit and post:

Company blog posts

If your company website regularly publishes new blog posts, you can promote them on your own personal LinkedIn.

The best part about this is that the content has already been written for you – all you need to do is summarise the talking points or key takeaways from the blog post, then post it along with the link.

For example:

You also don’t have to wait for new blog posts to be published, if your company website has a backlog of blog posts you can promote those as well. Depending on how many blog posts your website has, this tactic could keep you in content ideas for a long time!

Company services/landing pages

Promoting your services, products or current campaigns is another quick and easy way to keep your LinkedIn feed populated with fresh content.

Similar to posting blog posts, your company website probably has pages for each of the products/services it offers – so most of the content has already been written for you!

One key point to remember here is that you don’t want to make your LinkedIn feed too ‘salesy’, so don’t overdo it with these types of posts – but one every two weeks or so is a great way to keep your feed fresh.

For example:

Photos of your business activity

Posts that include photos you took yourself tend to perform well on LinkedIn. They perform even better if you post selfies, but if you are not comfortable doing that just yet then photos of where you are, where you are going or what you are doing are also great.

If you are at an event or a conference, take some pictures and post them on LinkedIn with a brief explanation of where you are. If something notable has happened at work – maybe a team meeting or a training session – take some pictures and post them!

Your followers are genuinely interested in what you are doing, so don’t be afraid to show them!

You may not have a lot of opportunities to do these types of posts if you are not regularly attending events, travelling for work etc. so the key is to never miss an opportunity to do these posts when you get the chance.

You could also see this as motivation to be more active in your sector – if you do not have at least one of this type of post each month, maybe you need to be attending more industry conferences or networking events?

Industry news

No matter what industry you work in, there will be a steady stream of industry-specific news being published every day.

Sharing industry news – and adding your own personal opinion to whatever is going on in your industry – is a great way to showcase your expertise and develop your personal brand in your chosen sector.

To get organised with this, make sure you follow all the main news outlets in your industry so you are up to date with what is going on.

Celebrating key milestones/achievements

This is a great way to keep your followers engaged with you, your work and your career – and you don’t have to be too revealing to produce good content.

If you are struggling to think what you could post in terms of ‘milestones’ or ‘achievements’, think about how long you have been in your current job? How many clients did you help last month? How many sales did you convert in Q1?

When you start thinking in those terms, you will be surprised at how many milestones you pass! You can also focus posts on the achievements of your wider team or individual team mates, for example if one of them has just passed a professional exam.

Some examples:

Using these content types and formats will help you develop an effective posting schedule that gets you started with using LinkedIn to help you achieve your career and business goals.

Vary your post types

Rotate through blog links, quick photos, short opinions on news, and milestone shout-outs. A simple mix keeps followers interested and shows you’re active without feeling repetitive.

Aim for a steady rhythm

Consistency beats perfection. Two useful posts a week are better than a burst of ten followed by silence. Block 30 minutes on your calendar - same day, same time - to draft or queue next week’s updates.

Add a human touch

Try to finish every post with one line that shows your viewpoint or experience. A quick “This tactic helped our team cut reporting time in half” turns a generic share into personal advice.

Use visuals whenever possible

A photo, chart or branded graphic gives the scroll-stopping effect - even a phone snapshot can lift engagement compared with text alone.

Tag and hashtag thoughtfully

Mention colleagues, partners, or events when relevant, and add two or three specific hashtags so the post reaches people beyond your network.

Watch the metrics

After a week or two, check which posts earned the most reactions, comments, or profile views. Note patterns in topic, format, or posting time and do more of what works.

Respond and refine

Reply to every genuine comment to keep the conversation going, and adjust future content based on feedback. The more you test and engage, the faster your confidence - and results - will grow.
